Gethin's laptop arrived back today, fully restored to it's previous state, all done free of charge by HP. The disk had failed. Gethin sent it to me to fix. I managed to get all Gethin's data off it, but it wouldn't boot, and the HP diagnostics gave a disk error. I got hold of HP to order the windows recovery disks, and a new hard drive. I mentioned in passing to the support engineer that I was surprised that the disk failed after only two years. He agreed, and although the machine was a whole year out of warranty, he raised a case and HP decided to replace the disk free of charge.
