pealing.com emails are moving shortly to a new server, with a new provider.
Your old emails, if you want to keep them, need to be moved by you - I can't do that for you.
This is to give you instructions on how to go about this.
Most of this has to wait until I've actually made the switch, but Step1 can (and should) be done in advance.
Steps
- Ensure the email server is set to the actual server name in your email program's settings. :
IMAP (incoming mail) server & SMTP (outgoing) server should be set to ocean.nocdirect.com .
Nothing else should need changing. This will allow you to access the emails on the old server after I've switched over to the new one.In thundebird the imap setting looks like:
and the SMTP setting look like:
NOTE: you only need to do this on one computer - the one you want to use to move old emails to the new server.
- There is an alternative to moving all your emails. That is to copy all your emails to a "local folder" .
This can be done now - and then over the next couple of weeks kept up to date until I make the switch.
In Thunderbird, this is straight forward - you drag and drop to a local folder. In Outlook, it may be different. Doug would be able to give advice. - Changing your password.
This is simplest done in the web interface to the emails.
Go to webmail.pealing.com (once I have made the switch) and login with your email address and the password I sent you.
Click on the account menu and select "Settings":
Choose the password option from the left pane:
Enter old password (the one I sent you) and then the new one twice, and click - Setting up to receive/send emails using the new server
This should be done on all computers/phones/tablets that you want to get emails for this account on.- Create a new email account. The settings are :
Incoming Server
Server Type: IMAP
Host: imap.migadu.com
Port:993
Security: SSL/TLS
Authentication: Normal/Plain
Username: <yourname>@pealing.com
Outgoing Server
Host: smtp.migadu.com
Port: 587
Security: STARTTLS
Authentication: Normal/Plain
Username: <yourname>@pealing.comThe Thunderbird settings screens looks like:
Android email settings look like:
Imap Settings SMTP Settings (No doubt the iPhone setup will be similar)
NOTE: I will let you know individually your password via WhatsApp
- Create a new email account. The settings are :
- Moving/Copying your old emails
- You need both accounts (new and old) set up on the same computer.
- I use Thunderbird for this - it's really easy with Thunderbird, but I'm sure other email clients are similar.
- Firstly, select all the emails in the old "Inbox" - click one email and then press Ctrl-A
- With the mouse, click on the top email and drag to the new "Inbox"
- To Copy, press and hold Ctrl and let go of the mouse button.
- The following screencast demonstrates the technique:
If you want to copy complete folders, the process is the same - simply select the folder (in the left pane this time) and drag to Inbox. - NOTE: There is a small difference in the folder structures between the two systems.
The old system had standard folders (such as Trash and Spam) as subfolders of the Inbox, whereas the new system has those standard folders next to the inbox.
For this reason it is recommended that you move the contents of folders you haven't created yourself, folder by folder, as demonstrated with Inbox in the video.
Folders you have created yourself can be copied as complete folders from the old Inbox to the new Inbox.
