Douglas & I went down to Invercargill again today for the orienteering. It was just a club event, but was well attended. Douglas's school mate Richard came too - he'd competed in the schools champs a month or so ago. Douglas & Richard ran as a pair on the orange course. They made one big-ish mistake which cost the a lot of time, but overall they did pretty well. They came in 8th of 21; not a bad effort, though they were disappointed with their time. I'm still recovering from a minor calf injury, so decided that a navigational challenge, rather than running challenge was more suitable, so opted for "short red". I found a couple of the controls pretty tricky, and spent too long searching for one before relocating myself and thus finding the control. Great learning though, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I am pretty surprised that I came in 4th of 10. A bit of practice, especially getting used to the scale of the maps, and I'll make fewer mistakes and enjoy it more.
