After the Belgium GP at Spa, I was trying to help a neighbour in the campsite start their BMW; I had a little bit of an ulterior motive, as they had a jump-start pack, and we'd flattened the battery on Jude's X-Trail over the weekend too. The BMW sucked all the juice out of the jump start pack, and still wouldn't go, so the guys were pushing. I gave them a hand. We were pushing backwards out of the parking spot, doors open pushing on the pillars. I was pushing on the passenger side. with R hand against windscreen & 'A' pillar. The car stopped moving, & Tom, who was pushing against the 'B' pillar on my side decided that was it for now, stopped pushing & slammed the door - on my finger! BMW doors fit well it seems. Even with a finger in the way. My R ring finger is somewhat battered. The top of the finger was held on by a flap of skin. The tip of the bone is crushed. You can't see from the X-Ray, but I can tell you there's a lot of nerves which are damaged and making their presence felt! I got great assistance in Belgium - the camp owners and staff were brilliant. An ambulance arrived in about 10 minutes, by which time the first aider had bandaged me up. Maggie came in the ambulance with me as she speaks reasonable French. As it happens the staff at the hospital who treated me all spoke good English. By the time Doug & Jude got back to our tent, neighbours had got the X-Trail going, and were feeding Douglas After X-Rays and clean-up, the doc stitched me up, by which time Doug & Jude had arranged with the camp-site owners that we would stay in a cabin that night; very good idea as we were all crammed into the tent a bit and avoiding bumping my hand would have been difficult. We cut short the Europe trip & came back to Riber on Monday. It was August bank holiday, & Eurotunnel was chocker-block, but we pleaded medical necessity, and they changed our booking from Wednesday, and didn't even charge us an admin fee. Tuesday afternoon I was in such pain we were back in A & E. Fortunately, there is nothing going wrong - it's just all those smashed nerves complaining.
