Haircut
Gideon went to the barbers the other day.
Not normally a big event for a ten tear old, but he hasn't had his hair cut for 7 years!
So long hair is no longer the thing in Gids view so off we went.
It took 2hours for stylist to cut his hair and Isis and Jacqueline cried when his pony tail was cut off, and he came out a changed boy!
Isis has also had hers cut!

I had a bit of trouble with uploading this post and have just realised I missed off the before photo so here it is
[Edit] I've rotated the images - RooWorks well
I have not looked at pealing.com very often on my HTC Sensation. I must say, Andrew, it works rather well, including the slide show. I'm even doing this post with it.
Now all we need is an Android app.
Goose Cape Peninsula and a well travelled trackable
The weather in St. Anthony has been poor considering it is the end of May, even for the Northern Peninsula. This weekend we have had wet snow! Today I delayed
Rain
I am in Milford Sound.
The rain has been reasonably heavy - we haven't had proper rain like this for a few months.
Since 0900yesterday, its been raining at around 10mm/hr - thats for the last 30 hours.
It certainly makes the rivers and waterfalls impressive.
This one is the only permenant fall visible from the the road on the way in.
More Competitions
Douglas also entered a SmallBore shooting competition on Saturday.
He was very consistent, scoring exactly the same on all three cards, though not exceptionally high scoring.
He didnt find out the result until the club shoot on Thursday, where he discovered he had come second. Consistency clearly helped! He even got a trophy, and, like Alex, bragging rights until he returns the trophy next year:)
Orienteering again
Douglas took part in the Southland Schools Orienteering Champs at the weekend.
He was in "Senior Boys Experienced", and managed to get third place! Not getting lost seemed to help, and his knee was much improved from 2 weeks ago at the South Island Champs.
Rocks and Ice near St.Anthony
Vivien and I are working in St Anthony for a while. It has given me chance to go some places I have not been. Yesterday I went along a cliff walk that I had looked at several times. It was meant to be a one way walk and Vivien was going to pick me up . However the snow and trees made the latter half look impassable so I returned to my starting point.
Welsh Wales
We are of to Welsh Wales for a long weekend. Jude is going birdwatching with the bird club outing and I am taking my trusty MTB and getting some training in.
Taking the MTB as there are some nice Forrest trails in Newborough Forrest which I plan to explore.
More later.

Vikings
Last Sunday I went out looking for some where to walk or ski. (Skiing is tricky because the snow is very patchy and walking is awkward because the patches left are deep and soft and not always easily avoided) I finished up going for a walk around L'Anse aux Meadows. This is the place where in AD 1000 the Vikings landed and established a village. Discovered in 1960, it is the most famous site of a Norse or Viking settlement in North America outside Greenland, by the Norwegian explorer Helge Ingstad and took about 7 yrs to excavate and is now a world heritage site.
Birthday Present
Back in February I was persuaded by some friends in Tansley to enter "The great Nottinghamshire bike ride" with them. The long course is 100 miles which is what they are doing. Some of the Tansleyites are keen long distance roadies so I was a bit unsure that I would be able to keep up so I in turn persuaded Fiona to enter as well (so we could bring up the rear!)
Also I was advised that it would be much harder on a mountain bike than a road bike, Now in my shed, and has been for the past 15 years, was Dan's old road bike. Since he has left the area I got it out and had a go on that.
